10 Money saving and other tips for wedding photography.

Wedding photography has changed over the last 5 years and continues to do so. In the past wedding photographers sold a product, usually an album and a pre determined number of prints, and then later, often at great expense, extra prints for family.

Whilst the majority of photographers do continue to offer that type of product , other photographers Klixs are now selling a service where you pay for their time and then receive all of your wedding images on disk. With it being so easy to purchase a wedding album and prints on-line, this can be a great way to save cash, whilst having a far greater choice.

Prints often cost as little as 15p/30p on-line, so rather than having to pick a few favourite photos , family can now have as many as they want!

10 Money saving tips

1) Find a photographer that will provide an image disk, many will tell you that in order to have a disk you must purchase an album. If that is the case, try another photographer!

2) Purchase your own album on-line, there are some great deals to be found at the end of the season, if you live near the Birmingham area check out the "FOCUS" exhibition at the NEC, you will find album companies from all over Europe with plenty of samples on show.

3) Order your photos from an on-line lab. You will find they all have "sign up offers" where you can get 40 prints free etc, so spread your business around and take advantage of them all!

4) Dont ask the photographer to stay for the evening , photographs of Uncle Bert doing the Birdy Dance in a disco tend to be just as good when taken with a compact camera. You don't need a pro for those shots, and time is money after all.

5) Do ask the photographer to stage the cake cutting, again time is money, so whilst in the past the cake cutting shot was often staged before the reception, now the photographer may be inclined to hang about and wait till after the meal to do it live and clock up an extra hour.

6) When you are scheduling the reception make sure there is plenty of time after the service to get all the photos done, otherwise the photographer will have to hang about afterwards and take more time.

7) Try and get the big group shot done as early as possible and tell the guests its going to happen. Its easy for a photographer to spend 10 mins getting 70 people into a nice group only to find that Aunty Maud has nipped off to the loo and Bert has found the bar, then you have spend ages looking for them. The earlier its done, the more likely people will not have wondered off and the less time will be waisted.

8) (general tip) Digital cameras have the option of Jpeg and RAW files , since your disk is going to be a modern version of your negatives , ask the photographer to shoot RAW files and ask if you can have a back up disk of these files to put away in case something happens to the image disk

9) (general tip) When you get your image disk make multiple copies of it and store them in safe places, you don't want a spilt coffee or other household accident to delete your only record of your wedding!

10) (general tip) Sunny Summers seem to have become a distant memory and rainy weddings have become common, make sure your photographer is prepared for this and ask if they will be bringing photographic lights with them, wedding photographs taken inside with a flash gun are often very disappointing.

The Bridge To Nowhere

I have always liked the Blue Bridge that arches over Great Stoke Way , not so much for its aesthetics , but for the simple reason it goes nowhere whatsoever .

At one side of the bridge is a housing development and some offices , and at the other side is a field of cows, it does not even cross a particularly busy road. Lovely though the cows are, I have yet to work out why they should command a bridge of their own.

I have been told two plausible reasons for this bridge being placed here, the second is the most reasonable, but I shall list both.

1) Mad people put it there

2) Great Stoke Way was originally planned to be linked to the M32 (possibly something to do with the tram system that never was). Expecting an increase in traffic, the bridge was placed in such a way so that the residents of Bakers Ground could visit the cows without inconvenience or danger.

Well I hope you like the photo and if anyone has an further insite about the Blue Bridge please add a comment.
